More to “The President’s Daughter” : A Business Card
Within the pages of “The President’s Daughter” (please see my other posts on the subject here, here, and here), I found a business card for Lillie R. Evans. I could scan it now with my trusty FlipPal, but I’ll trust my fingers to just type out the information. The card reads:
OFF. PL 8-9971 RES. PL 2-9975
Lillie R. Evans
LICENSED REAL ESTATE BROKER
LOANS REFINANCING SALES
NOTARY PUBLIC
TRUST DEEDS 6812 SO. VERMONT AVE.
BOUGHT & SOLD LOS ANGELES 44, CALIF.
Shall we do a search for Ms. Evans?
If I try the words Lillie Evans Los Angeles in Google or Lillie Evans residing in Los Angeles in Ancestry, I get a lot of results that I can’t narrow down much. Try Lillie Evans real estate in Google and I get much the same result.
A search for Lillie Evans 2-9975, produces a phone book listing her residence as 6826 Bonsallo Ave. Typed that address into Google, and I find a WPA Household Census record from 1939. Please see the link to find some fascinating information about the house built in 1938. But I’m not positive she lived in the house in 1939.
A search of 8-9971 Los Angeles in Google pulled up an advertisement for 6 units for sale in a 1960 edition of the California Eagle. Yet again this record does not mention her name, but I think its okay to presume this was her office renting out the apartments.
More searches of the California Eagle produce advertisements in 1963-1964 for “Lillie R. Evans, Realtor.” Her office is now at 6804 S. Vermont and her phone number is 752-2385.
This was just a preliminary search. I can’t wait to find more!
